Originally as a settlement for the Mon People, the original name of Pathum Thani was Muang Sam Khok, founded during the Ayutthaya period.
Just 45km from Bangkok, Pathum Thani was re-named by King Phra Phuttha Lertla in 1815 on a Royal visit.
