The
King Taksin Shrine
Within the compound of Wat Lum Mahachai Chumpon,
this shrine commemorates King Taksin's Thai army
who liberated the province from Burmese occupation.
Highly
revered by the local people, particularly those
of Chinese ancestry and draws large worshipping
crowds during the chinese New Year celebrations
(February).
Wat
Pa Pradu
A large reclining Buddha is located in the
main chapel of this temple. The image reclines on
its left instead of the traditional right!
The
Rayong City Pillar
Highly respected by local people, the shrine
housing the pillar was originally made of wood but
has recently been reconstructed in brick and mortar.
The
Phra Buddha Angkirot
The principal Buddha image of Rayong is enshrined
in a Thai-style pavilion at Suan Si Muang, just
behind the city hall.
Koh
Saket
Only about 15 mins from the mainland, this
small island is blessed with beautiful scenery,
with long white beaches and crystal clear water.
Snorkelling around the coral reeefs is spectacular,
among the best in the whole country!
The
Sobha Botanical Gardens
Numerous varieties of trees and plants, regarded
as the best collection in Thailand. There are a
number of antique objects and other objects dart
on display in the houses.
Ban
Pheand and Ban Khram
A tiny village where local products such as
fish sauce, cuttle-fish, dried shrimp and shrimp
paste, are made and sold. Just a little further
from Ban Phe is the village of Ban Khram, the birthplace
of Sunthon Phu. There is a beautiful kept memorial
park where his house was sited.
The
Suan Son Pine Park
Popular picnic spot with shaded rest areas,
white clean sand and a number of seafood stalls
and cafes.
Laem
Mae Phim
This cape is ideal for swimming as the waves
are not strong and the water is clean and clear.
Lovely spot!
Koh
Khi Pla
Just north of the cape which can sometimes
be reached by walking as the tide goes down to the
extent that a "road" appears!
Wat
Saranat Thamaram
At the corners of this temple are replicas
of four major Buddhist monuments, Phra Pathom Chedi,
Phra That Panom, Buddha Gaya and Phra That Chaiya.
The
Khao Cha-Mao National Park
The waterfall, "Namtok Khao Cha-Mao"
has 8 levels and it's not too difficult to reach
the top.
Tham
Khao Wong (Caves)
About 80 large and small connecting chambers
make up this network of tunnels and caves, all of
which are richly decorated with natural stalactites
and stalagmites. Accessibility during rainy season
can be difficult along the road.
Koh
Man
Consisting of three islands; Koh Man Nai, Koh
Man Klang and Koh Man Nok, these islands are good
for coral reef snorkelling and are currently being
developed into Sea Turtle Preservation Sanctuary.
Ban
Kon
Ao Ban Kon is a small fishing village with
a long beautiful beach which stretches out to "Hat
Mae Ramphung".
