When
thinking of nightlife in Thailand, all thoughts generally
turn to Bangkok.
The entertainment capital of Asia is world famous for
it's after-dark activities with thousands of partygoers
revelling until the small hours.
But there is more
to Thailand
nightlife than just the capital. The islands
in the south have legendary parties, dance clubs and cabarets.
And don't foget the international playground of Pattaya
along the eastern seaboard.
Bangkok
Seen around the globe as the "Sex
Capital of the World", this "honour" is
not without foundation. But The
City of Angels is not all tarts and pervs!
Mixed in the centre
of the city is a network of restaurants, clubs, pubs,
live music and cabaret shows.
Sure, if you want
to get laid you're in the right place, but if that's "not
your bag baby" (generally isn't for most people),
Bangkok
has literally thousand of places to go. In all hotels
and transport stops are free newspapers and magazines
listing the latest hotspots.
Pattaya
Just
100km east of Bangkok
is Pattaya.
Born out of the Vietnam
War for GI's needing some R & R, Pattaya
has grown into Thailand's
premier beach resort and now annually attracts hundreds
of thousands of holidaymakers.
There is two sides
to Pattaya
nightlife . Sadly, there is an underground
sex-for-sale scene that leaves a bad taste in the mouth
and common to see is VERY old, VERY fat men holding hands
with VERY young Thai girls and even in some cases, Thai
boys!
But if you keep away
from certain areas you will certainly have a wild time
in Pattaya.
Go-Go
clubs, hostess bars, pubs, clubs, cabaret shows,
you'll find something for all tastes. Pattaya
never sleeps!
The
South
The
two coastlines of Southern
Thailand are similar nightime playgrounds.
The most famous destinations are Phuket
on the west coast and Koh
Samui on the Gulf of Thailand. These two island
resorts are famed for their beaches and lively nightlife.
The main advantage
the southern destinations have is in the restaurant industry.
When it comes to fresh seafood, all the tourist centres
across the south of the country have little competition
anywhere in the world.
The main nightime
activities in Phuket
are centred around Patong
and Karon
beaches whereas on Koh
Samui, Chaweng
and Lamai
beaches are the traditional party towns.
Full Moon Party
- Koh Phangan
Just north of Koh
Samui is Koh
Phangan, home of the world famous Full
Moon Party. Every month, tens of thousands
of partygoers head for this usually tranquil setting and
make a bee-line for Had
Rin at the south east tip of the island.
