Wat Phrathat Doi Suthep
Doi Suthep is a large golden pagoda in the centre
of the temple containing a part of the holy relics
of the Lord Buddha. It is a holy spot visited throughout
the year by Buddhist pilgrims from all over the
world. This temple was built by King Gue-Na in 1383
A.D.
Wat Chiang Man
Spectacular 14th century Buddhist temple, one of
the best in Chiang Mai.

Night Bazaar
Chiang Mai's legendary night bazaar & market
is a traditional Chinese-style setting, a throwback
to olden times!

The temple was built in 1477 A.D. The 8th World
Sangkayana (Doctrines revision) was held in this
temple at that time.

Near Wat Chet Yot. The museum contains ancient
Buddhist statues and weapons.

The TRC is in Chiang Mai University and gathers
information and studies Thailand's tribal races.

This monument was built to commemorate Khruba
Sivichai who initiated a plan to construct a hillside
road for cars and people to the monastery on Doi
Suthep.

Phing Palace
The winter Palace for the current Royal Family.
When they are not in residence it is open to the
public (only on weekends).

Around this area is a beautiful scenic spot
for picnics.

Old Chiang Mai Cultural Centre
Next to Chiang Mai Gate heading west from the
city. Here are some great artifacts from various
tribes and a good information centre.

earthenware shops ply their trade. Everything is
man-made. Also check out Ban Muang Kung, a small
village which is known as the home of earthenware.

This temple dates back to 1451 A.D. The vihara houses
a holy relic of the Lord Buddha, much revered by
the locals.

Inthanont National Park
Doi Inthanont is one of Thailand's most famous National
Parks and one of the best equipped to welcome visitors.
It is situated in the area of three districts; Chom
Thong, San Pa Tong and Mae Chaem and covers over
1,000 square km. It offers beautiful natural scenery.
Shooting, fishing and causing damage of trees and
plants are strictly forbidden.

10-minute drive from Namtok Mae Klang is Borichinda
Cave. The downside is a 2 hour walk to the cave
itself. The Cave is not dark. The area is ideal
for picnics.

This tiny village is home to the Hmong Hilltribe.
The village offers lodging, campfire and food for
visitors wanting to stay overnight. Also, some quaint
souvenirs are available in the village.

There is a demonsration daily 09.30- 11.00 hrs.
Admission fee is 40 baht. A Jungle Tour is also
available after the show for 250 Baht per person

This is a Royal tribal development project that
promotes the cultivation of temperate flowering
plants. About 80 kilometers from Chiang Mai heading
north.

and Lisu tribal people can be seen from the banks
of this reservoir.

Hot Spring
In a 10 acre forest clearing, there are about 50
hot springs for you to jump in. Three boil continuously
with a strong smell of sulphur. Water heat ranges
between 90 and 100 C.
East
Cottage Industries
On both sides along the eastern highway road,
there are many factories of handicrafts; silverware,
lacquerware, wood carving etc. The people are divided
into communities, each is working at their crafts.
For
those interested in crafts, endless time can be
spent visiting the communities and watching the
delicate workmanship. The craftsmen are friendly
people and they are proud to show visitors around,
whether they buy their wares or not.

Sang Umbrella Making Village
People here make umbrellas quickly and with
great precision. Temple Bells, a paper made by an
ancient process is used to make these charmingly
painted wet season essentials.

Kamphaeng
This is where most of the Thai silk and cotton is
made. Silk and cotton materials are woven by local
folk on traditional looms.

Kamphaeng Hot Spring
Located within beautiful natural scenery in an atmosphere
of tranquitily surrounded by green mountain ranges
and shady trees. The San Kamphaeng Hot Spring is
the ideal destination for health and physical well-being
by a hot mineral soaking.

Just next door to the San Kamphaeng Hot Spring,

Wat Phrathat Hariphunchai
The temple was built in 1157 A.D. Holy relics
were enshrined in the large golden Chedi called
Phrathat Hariphunchai. This is one of the most sacred
monuments in the north and one which should not
be missed.

Silk brocade is woven by local folk on traditional
hand looms.

Weaving Village
In Ban Pa-sang, famous for handwoven cotton materials.
Batiks are also available.

Phra Baht Tak Pha Shrine
Legend claims that Lord Buddha and his disciples
came to this place and rested here. He asked the
venerable Anada to dry his robes at the nearby stone
slope. Those plain stones magically resembled robes
thereafter.

Suan Dok
This temple has the most complete version of a Lanna
chapel and is home to Phra Buddha Sihing, considered
Chiang Mai's most important and sacred Buddha image.
Wat Chedi Luang
Built in 1411 A.D. The big Chedi was damaged by
an earthquake in 1545 A.D. and has never been restored.
Also here is the Inthakhin, or City Pillar.
Wat Ku Tao
The Chedi here was built in 1613 A.D. in the shape
of five guards of diminishing sizes and beautifully
decorated with colored porcelain, representing five
Lord Buddha.
