Of Interest Phrathat
Chae Haeng
Over 600 years old, here they celebrate Buddha on
the full moon day of the first lunar month. The
fair includes fireworks and processions of local
people offering gifts to the Lord Buddha.
Phrathat
Chao Noi
This pagoda is situated on the top of Khao Noi Hill,
Ban Khu Nai. The hill is 800 feet high and has an
access road to the top.
Wat
Phumin
Wat Phumin monastery has very unusual characteristics
compared to other monasteries. The main shrine hall
and the vihara are constructed as the same building.
Other
attractive items of this monastery are some beautiful
wood carving doors placed in the four directions
made by the Lanna Thai artisans and mural paintings
painted on the intemal wall of the vihara displayingancient
cultural events.
Wat
Suan Tan and Phra Chao Thong Thit
This beautiful old style monastery has a beautiful
pagoda with some amazing decorated works of art.
A big bronze Buddha image named "Phra Chao Thong
Thit" is housed inside the pagoda.
A
grand celebration with an impressive fireworks display
takes place all day and all night during the Songkran
Festival.
Wat
Chang Kham Wora Vihara
This is a royal-grade monastery, in the heart
of Nan city. There are elephant sculptures decorated
around the base of the pagoda.
Nan
National Museum
Nan national Museum puts on exhibitions of
black ivory and various kinds of artifacts. Open
daily from 9am-6pm.
Tham
Pha Mong and Tham Pha Wiang
Some beautiful stalactite and stalagmite formations
can be seen inside these caves and this makes an
excellent day trip from the main centre of Nan town.
Sao
Din or Hom Chom
This 5 sq. km area is dotted with various formations
caused by flowing currents and subsequent erosion
by rains having sand stone as the top level.
Namtok
Sila Pet
A spectacular waterfall park, a very popular place
for the locals.
Pha
Tup Forest Park
There are several caves in the park area worth visiting,
particularly great spot for nature lovers.
Nan
Boat Racing
After Buddhist Lent, the end of October or the beginning
of November, Nan holds it's famous boat racing festival
on the Nan River.
This
is a hugely popular event where several long boats,
carved out of one single tree trunk, participate
the racing. Foreigners are encouraged to team up
with local crews.
