Update.......

"Ope" This Helps!
As you wander around Pai, you will come across "no drug" signs everywhere. Thai law states all businesses must display a sign in English somewhere in their establishment, reminding people. Now a trendy, culturally diverse backpacker's haven, Pai used to be a junky town.

Up untill about 3 years ago, many foreigners seeking cheap drugs flocked north for the ample, easily accesible supply sources. But the police are cracking down on it and it's not on the source (the hilltribe villages), it's on the bars and club owners.

It would seem more logical for the Thai gov't to just stop the hilltribes from providing all of the illegal substances but that would be selling out their own people, who make a good living from foreigners.

Anyhow, if you really need your smoke, take care. Don't think the police don't notice if you head to the waterfall for a "5 minute swim", they know it's more likely a quick visit to the nearby Lahu village. If caught, you'll go to jail or if you're lucky, be penalized with a large fine, payable in cash, no receipt!
