Of Interest Phrathat
Cho Hae
This pagoda at Pa Daeng is coated with thin Dok
Buab gold sheet and is 33 metres high. The name
Cho Hae is derived from a kind of grade satin, woven
from Sib Song Panna Kingdom, then wrapped around
the pagoda by the villagers as an offering.
An
annual fair worshipping the pagoda takes place on
the middle of the fourth lunar month every year.
Phraya
Chaiyabun Monument
This monument was constructed as a memorial to Phraya
Chaiyabun who was the governor of Phrae during the
regin of King Rama V. He was killed by tribal people
because he did not agree to give the land over to
them during the rebellion of 1902.
Wat
Phra That Chom Chaeng
This temple is believed to be a shrine where
the Buddha's hair is kept. There is also a museum
within its precints where various kinds of rare
artifacts are collected.
Wat
Luang and Wat Phra Non
Wat Luang is one of the oldest temples in the
city of Phrae. The significant properties include
Phra That Luang Chai Chang Kam, a Chedi of Chiang
Saen style, Phra Chao Saen Luang, a Buddha image
and a museum where Phrae's antiques are collected.
On
Phra Non Nua Road near Wat Luang is Wat Phra Non
where there is a Vihan (an image hall) with a beautifully
carved Lanna Thai designs.
Ban
Prathap Chai
A wonderful example of a traditional Thai style
house built on 130 huge and elaborately carved teak
posts. Open daily from 8am-4pm.
Tham
Pha Nang Khoi
This large cave is 200 metres in length and naturally
decorated with beautiful stalactites and stalagmites.
Namtok
Tat Mok
This waterfall is otherwise called Namtok Mae
Khoi and has three-levels.
Namtok
Huai Rong
This fair sized three-level waterfall is similar
to Namtok Tat Mok but slightly larger.
Phrathat Phra Lo
This pagoda, believed to be the place where the
ashes and bones of Phra Lo are housed, is an important
place for locals to pay homage.
Phae
Muang Phi Forest Park
Inside the park are strange looking earthen
pillars deriving from soil erosion. This area was
originally a large shrub garden where villagers
often got lost prompting them to call the area Phae
Muang Phi (the shrub or ghost community).
Ban
Thung Hong
Renowned for its good quality Mohom cotton fabric,
a famous local product, this tiny village has some
excellent shops to buy souvenirs, all made by the
villagers by hand.
