Sitting on the border of Cambodia, modern Surin is world famous for its annual Elephant Round-Up, in the third week of November and attracts visitors from all over the world.

Immortalised in Stephen Leather's novel "Private Dancer", Surin is a rural area with strong links to Cambodia.
