Nakhon
Si Thammarat has four rivers that flow through it.
The Tapi, Pak Phanang, Pak Phoon and Nakhon Si Thammarat.

Wat Phra Mahathat
This is originally an old monastery of Nakhon
Si Thammarat, situated in the heart of the city.
It is believed to have been built around A.D. 757
during the Sivichaya period in compliance with the
idea of Mahayana Buddhism. The temple boasts a lot
of important archaeological places such as Vihara
Khien, Vihara Khot, Vihara Pho Langka and the Buddha
Museum.

Khao Luang National Park
Main attractions in this beautiful national
park area are some spectacular waterfalls listed
below:
Nam
Tok Karom
About 1300-1400m in height with 19 levels, great
for swimming.
Nam
Tok Phromlok
One of the biggest falls with 3 levels.
Nam
Tok Ai Kieo or Nai Kieo
Smaller falls,right near Phrommalok.
Nam
Tok Krung Ching
The most beautiful of the many levels is called
"Nam Fon Saen Ha" because it looks like rain drops
falling down from the cliff.
Phra
Vihara Luang
This big vihara was constructed next to the
Phrathat Pagoda in the Sukhothai period. It is currently
utilized as a main shrine hall but still being called
a sancturary or vihara.
Old
City Wall
First constructed during the period of Phraya
Si Thamma Sokarat and later renewed twice during
the periods of King Ramesuan and King Narai the
Great of Ayutthaya. The total width is 460 meters
and 2,230 metres in length.
Phra
Buddha Sihing Tower
The tower houses Phra Buddha Sihing Image and
is located near the Provincial Hall (Sala Klang).
Giant
Swing and Brahman Temple
Set in the heart of the city, the current structures
are the replica of the ones in Bangkok but smaller
in size. They are an important place for Brahman
Religion which was first introduced in Nakhon Si
Thammarat.
Phra
Suea Muang Shrine
This shrine houses an idol of Theparak, the
spirit of the City Pillar of Nakhon Si Thammarat.
Sa
Lang Dap or Sword Washing Pond
This pond is the place where the slaughterer
washed his sword after slaughtering Si Prat. It
used to be a very spacious place in the old days
but is getting more narrow having decorations and
water lily growing in the pond.
Sala
Pradu Hok- This is a pavillion built outside
the city wall, used as an accommodation by travellers
who could not get into the city in time. Since there
were several travellers staying together, stories,
some true some not, were told by those staying here
until the folks of that area called it the "Lying
Pavillion".
Laem
Talumphuk
This cape has a long white sand beach and is
the place where Buddhism was introduced during the
Sivichaya Empire period. The cape was badly destroyed
by a tropical storm named "Harian" in 1962.
Festival
Of The Tenth Lunar Month
This ceremony is celebrated locally during
the fifteen nights of the waning moon period in
September and October. Buddhists offer a variety
of foods and other gifts to monks and there are
also numerous cultural performances, exhibitions,
contests and other entertainments.
