| Adventure
and sports freaks will see Thailand
as a paradise. Scuba
diving,
rock climbing, nature trails, golf,
fishing you name it, it's here.
Scuba Diving
The
"capital" of diving
in Thailand is Koh
Tao in the Gulf
of Thailand. Easily accessible from Surat
Thani, Koh
Samui or Chumphon,
this paradise island is the biggest teaching destination
in Asia.
Over thirty operators
are based on the island and all languages are covered.
Other good destinations
for diving are Koh
Phangan, Phuket,
Pattaya
and Koh
Phi-Phi in Krabi.
Once you reach a certain level of certification, then
you can tackle the shark infested Similan Islands and
the Burma Banks.
Rock
Climbing
Those who get a kick out
of hanging by their fingertips at ridiculous heights need
to head to Krabi
province, in particular Railay
Beach and Koh
Phi Phi. The
limestone cliffs around the province, aside from being
stunning, have become a world famous sites for climbers
from around the world.
Whatever
your level of experience, the
operators on Railay can get you started. The "Phra
Nang Climbing Club" is the main group of guys on
the peninsular and they take care of all safety aspects
including a rescue service.
Golf
One thing Thais are passionate about is golf. The courses
around the central province of Kanchanaburi
are of professional standard and the facilities are first-class.
In the
tourist centres such as Pattaya
or Phuket
the fees are higher but the courses are just as good,
if not better, with country clubs, restaurants etc.
